Music Envy: Motion City Soundtrack covers Pavement
I remember a few things about my middle school experience. One of them was jamming out to Pavement’s ‘Cut Your Hair’ The video features a small clip of why MCS chose to cover Pavement. The lead singer, Justin Pierre, lists Pavement as one of the bands he grew up with and could listen to forever. I think I missed the train on...

Music Envy: Updates and Shoutouts!
halfwaynorth has been working hard over the last few months trying to prepare for the release of our latest EP ‘Ghost Shuffle.’ One of the most exciting things we are working on is our visual image. We have gotten to work with some great stylists, photographers, and directors and are looking forward to working with even more in the future.
Kasia Koniar, one of the directors we are...

Gear Envy: PANArt Hang Drum
I just came across this amazing performance Davide Swarup. He is playing on a Hang Drum from PANArt. I love non-traditional instruments. How long until I have one?

5 Things: iTunes Random - Chris Darby
1. Rush Different Stages Stick It Out Let’s face it, Rush is an amazing power trio. Understandably it can be hard for some listeners to get past Lee’s guinea-pig-esque vocal delivery. This is not one of my favorite tracks but I grew up listening to Rush so their sound always holds a close link to my childhood. 2. The Beatles Past Masters Disc 2 You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) I...

Some seriously cool shots and back-story behind the boutique amplifier craze. Unfortunately, hwn hasn’t invested into this craze yet. Did you hear the silent cry of band wives and girlfriends?

Ghost Shuffle Mastering Day/Restlest Heart
Today the band heads over to Colossal Mastering to finish up the EP. Despite the fact that the last few days have been filled with mixdowns, mishaps, and a lot of driving. I am hyped. If we like the final prints, then we’ve got the tough part out of the way, but are no where near finished. None the less, I am HYPED.
Then I got Peter Cetera’s ‘Restlest Heart’ stuck in my...

Music Envy: Florence and The Machine
I was just introduced to Florence + The Machine yesterday. The musicians seem to rotate behind the lead vocals of Florence Welch, who provides her very soulful voice, face and name to the project . She reminds me of Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine performance. (Highly Recommended)
I’ve yet to hit the entire album, Lungs, up yet. But I’m quite impressed with the...

Music Envy: As Tall As Lions
My first introduction to As Tall As Lions came when Darby was on tour as a drum tech for Under the Influence of Giants. The Giants were opening up for the Lions. He phoned me from the road and and told me about this band that brought a fierce intensity with them on stage every night, as if each night was the first time performing each song. The picture above truly demonstrates how much the...

Local Spotlight: Welcome to Ashley
I was first introduced to Welcome to Ashley through a mutual friend, Vince Cassamatta. Vince had just finished recording WTA’s latest record and Darby and I were in preliminary talks to have Vince work on our album. When Darby sent me the details on last weeks show, both of us were excited to be sharing the bill with WTA. I approached Vince with the idea of us writing a piece on WTA and he...
